Should You Get Contact Lenses from Your Optometrist?

It can be a true annoyance to wear your glasses on a daily basis. Who wants to have bulky things sitting on their face so that they can see properly? That’s why contact lenses are so appealing. Contact lenses allow you to be able to see properly without having to wear anything on your face. But are you a person who can benefit from putting a contact lens in your eyes or are you someone who should really stick to glasses?

Contact Lenses

What, exactly, are contact lenses? Contact lenses are very similar to corrective glasses, except that they are made of a silicone material that is designed to help your eyes to see. Regular glasses work by helping the light to bend so that it hits the retina correctly. The reason why people have problem seeing is because the light isn’t able to get to the right spot in the eye. With glasses or contact lenses, however, the light is able to hit the right nerve endings in the eye so that the image that you see is able to travel to the brain to be translated into something that you can understand. When you have a visual impairment, the things that you look at are blurry and more difficult to see. This can make it impossible to see things from far away, or up close, or even both, and can cause headaches as well.

The main reason people visit an optometrist is to figure out why they are having a difficult time seeing. In most cases it is because someone is near sighted, far sighted, or has an astigmatism. These three things can all be fixed with Austin eyewear or contact lenses.

So are contact lenses for you? You may have to try out a few pairs before you learn if they are or not. Contact lenses are not for everyone, and many times people find that they’re not able to wear them even though they truly wish to, often because the eye is too sensitive or because the shape of the eye just doesn’t work well with the contact lenses.

Regular Glasses

Regular glasses, however, can be ideal for some people, even those who can wear contact lenses. The eye is actually slightly strained when you wear contact lenses, as it is not able to breathe fully the way that it needs to. When you wear contact lenses you may feel as though your eyes are itchy or as though they’re bothering you. With glasses, however, the eye is able to breathe as it needs to, which is why so many Austin eye doctors recommend wearing glasses, especially for younger people.

Are contact lenses for you? The only way to know for sure is going to be to visit your eye doctor and to discuss the possibility of getting contact lenses. He may even ask you to try out a few pairs of lenses in order to see if your eyes will tolerate them well or not.
